Christian McCaffrey Suffers Season-Ending Injury While Taking Nap
SAN FRANCISCO—ESPY’s Comeback Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey is already out for the season after tearing his ACL during a peaceful afternoon snooze.
“As far as I know, nobody touched him,” 49’ers team doctor Scotty Archibald said. “He nodded off on his sofa fully healthy and woke up with a shredded knee.”
Three of his nine seasons have been cut short due to injury, including 2024, in which he played just four games. But San Franciso GM John Lynch pooh-poohed any thought that his star running back is fragile. “Look, NFL athletes get injured while in deep REM sleep. It’s part of the game.”
This new injury is coming off the heels of a setback he suffered over the summer. In June, he got a concussion during playtime with his one-year-old daughter Colette. According to reports, the two were engaging in a gentle pillow fight the likes of which you might see on a Downey commercial when the child tapped him with a goose-down pillow, causing him to lose consciousness for 47 minutes. “I know the media’s narrative is that I’m injury prone, but what parent hasn’t been catastrophically injured by their toddler?” McCaffrey asked incredulously.
“I’ll be back,” McCaffrey said, before he yawned and fractured his patella.
