After Heated Negotiations, Jay-Z Convinces Reluctant Jay-Z To Headline Super Bowl Halftime Show
BROOKLYN–Music mogul Jay-Z will headline the Apple Music Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show, but sources with knowledge of the situation said it almost didn’t happen because Jay-Z didn’t want to perform… until Jay-Z convinced him.
“Jay-Z had no interest in performing at the Super Bowl, frankly,” Apple Music wrote in a post on X, tagging Jay-Z. “He’s a husband, a father, and at 56 years-old, he accidentally farts when he sneezes. But thanks to the persuasive argument Jay-Z gave him, Jay-Z finally agreed.”
Jay-Z’s rider in his contract includes Worthy’s Original Hard Candies, an AM/PM compartmentalized tray for his various medications, and a Life Alert in case he falls on stage and can’t get up,
The announcement comes after weeks of reports that Jay-Z was in the running for the coveted stage. But ultimately, the famous rapper chose the famous rapper over front-runners Miley Cyrus, Harry Styles and Justin Bieber.
The fact that those three performers are more relevant with today’s artists left some people scratching their heads as to why Jay-Z was so intent on selecting AARP member Jay-Z, whose biggest album was released 30 years ago, before the advent of cellular telephones.
“Kids said ‘6-7’ a lot last year, so maybe he decided to pick Jay-Z because he’s like 67 years-old?” eight-grader Braylon Gorman wondered aloud.
Jay-Z answered critics of his decision in post on his MySpace page. “Jay-Z is the most talented and influential musician of this century,” Jay-Z explained. “And he’s extremely handsome, too.”
Jay-Z and his entertainment company, Roc Nation, have produced and selected performers for the Super Bowl halftime show since 2019.
“For several years, I’ve had the privilege of selecting the Super Bowl Halftime performer,” Jay-Z shared. “And I’ve always dreamed of convincing Jay-Z to get on that stage. I’m truly blessed that Jay-Z finally agreed to share his talents with the world.”
At press time, Jay-Z was in talks with Jay-Z about asking Beyonce to perform with him, but Jay-Z was playing hard ball.
