Monday Morning MASH Unit: Week 6 Fantasy Football Injury Report

SHARE

Week 6 was a reminder that fantasy football is a weekly exercise in managing chaos. Your roster can survive a bad matchup. It can survive a touchdown getting called back. It can even survive your opponent starting a kicker who somehow scores 18 points.

What it cannot survive indefinitely is watching your starters disappear into the medical tent. (Or your head coach, looking at you Steeler’s fans!)

Sunday brought several injuries, although thankfully much less than we’ve been cursed with the last few weeks. However, there are some potential fantasy consequences, including a concussion for Ladd McConkey, a possible knee injury for Davante Adams, and a shoulder injury for Romeo Doubs.

The PigSkinFantasy Monday Morning MASH Unit is open. Let’s figure out who deserves a roster spot, who could benefit, and who needs to stay on your bench until the medical report clears things up.

Ladd McConkey — WR, Chargers

The Injury

McConkey suffered a concussion during Sunday’s loss to Kansas City and was ruled out. He had just caught a 17-yard pass before leaving for further evaluation. He was also dealing with a foot issue entering the game after missing the previous week’s contest.

Fantasy Fallout

This is a frustrating combination of injuries for a receiver whose availability has already been an issue. The concussion requires clearance through the NFL’s return-to-play protocol. The pre-existing foot problem adds another question mark, even if he clears the concussion protocol quickly.

Fantasy managers: Hold McConkey in most leagues. The Chargers get a well-timed bye this week and his situation (with both his concussion and his foot, should be a lot more clear when the Chargers return in Week 8).

Tre Harris: Harris is worth monitoring if McConkey misses time. While he sat out this week’s contest with a hamstring issue, he would see an uptick in usage if he returns following the bye and McConkey doesn’t.

Quentin Johnston: Johnston could also see more opportunities. His fantasy appeal remains tied to whether those opportunities translate into consistent targets rather than occasional big plays.

KeAndre Lambert-Smith: Stepping in with the absence of Harris and McConkey, Lambert-Smith (who was activated on Saturday) led the Chargers in targets and catches, going 5 for 32 on 9 targets. He would be on the PPR radar if McConkey and Harris continue to miss time.

The PigSkinFantasy verdict: McConkey is a hold. Two separate health concerns mean fantasy managers should demand a full practice week—or a very convincing medical update—before trusting him.

Davante Adams — WR, Rams

The Injury

Adams appeared to injure his left knee late in Sunday’s game against Arizona. He pulled up lame, without making contact with anyone, and was seen hobbling toward the sideline. The Rams had not provided a definitive diagnosis immediately after the game.

Fantasy Fallout

This is the biggest wait-for-the-medical-report situation for fantasy managers.

Adams entered Week 6 with 30 receptions, 480 yards and four touchdowns. That’s a productive receiver whose absence would matter to both fantasy lineups and the Rams’ offense. But an apparent knee injury is not a diagnosis. We don’t yet know whether this is a minor issue, a multiweek absence, or something more serious.

Fantasy managers: Hold Adams. Do not trade him for a discount before the Rams clarify the injury.

Puka Nacua: Nacua could see an even larger target share if Adams misses time. He is the obvious beneficiary to monitor, although his value was already strong before Sunday’s injury.

Rams’ other receivers: Deep-league managers should monitor Jordan Wittington, who is listed as the next man up on the Rams depth chart, but don’t blindly add a player based only on the assumption that Adams will miss multiple games.

The PigSkinFantasy verdict: Hold Adams and prepare a contingency plan. Nacua is the safest Rams receiver to trust, while any speculative addition needs to be supported by evidence of an expanded role.

Romeo Doubs — WR, Patriots

The Injury

Doubs suffered a shoulder injury after catching a 42-yard touchdown against the Jets in the first quarter. He landed on his right shoulder, was evaluated by medical staff and went to the locker room. His return was initially listed as questionable, but he was soon ruled out.

Fantasy Fallout

The timing is particularly frustrating: Doubs had already delivered a big play before the injury interrupted his afternoon.

His availability matters because New England’s passing-game opportunities can shift quickly when a receiver leaves. But the extent of the shoulder injury will determine whether this is a brief interruption or a more meaningful absence.

Fantasy managers: Hold Doubs until the Patriots provide an update. If he’s ruled out for Week 7, reassess based on your league’s bench depth and available replacements.

A.J. Brown: Brown returned to action after missing time with an ankle injury, giving New England another established receiving option. If Doubs misses time, Brown could benefit from a larger share of the passing-game work.

DeMario Douglas: Douglas is a name to watch in PPR leagues if Doubs is unavailable. Douglas went 7 for 86 and a touchdown on 8 targets Sunday after Doubs left the game.

The PigSkinFantasy verdict: Doubs is a hold pending further information. Pending his availability, Douglas is worth an add.

Blake Grupe — Kicker, Los Angeles Rams

The Injury

Yes, kickers are people too. Grupe injured his knee while attempting to tackle Arizona returner Devin Duvernay on a kickoff, even though he weighs 43 pounds while holding a Shake Weight in both hands. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game, and reports indicated he left the stadium on crutches with his leg in a brace. His availability for Week 7 is uncertain.

Fantasy Fallout

The Rams’ kicking situation is back in the blender. Grupe had made a 44-yard field goal before going down, and punter Ethan Evans handled the kicking duties afterward, including an extra point. Los Angeles will almost certainly bring in another kicker before Week 7, so fantasy managers should wait for clarity on who will handle field goals and extra points.

Fantasy managers:

Unless you are unusually attached to Grupe, feel free to drop him. Or not.

The PigSkinFantasy Verdict

If you are confident in the Rams offense and can wait, go ahead and hold for news. If your waivers run before you get news, you should still wait. Blowing waiver priority on a kicker is not the smartest idea. By the end of the week you’ll know where he stands and can replace him if needed.

The PigSkinFantasy Monday Morning Prescription

Week 6 delivered injuries worth monitoring, but the smartest response is not to empty your bench and throw waiver claims at every backup.

McConkey and Adams are the biggest offensive names in this group. Hold them while the medical information develops, but start planning alternatives now.

A roster spot is an asset. Use it to prepare for a possible absence, not to punish yourself for owning an injured player.

Hold valuable players, identify genuine opportunity, and don’t spend your waiver budget on a backup simply because he appeared in an injury headline. Your roster needs a plan—not a panic attack.
