Week 6 Fantasy Football Sleepers: 4 Players Ranked Too Low

SHARE

Fantasy football rankings are useful. They’re also occasionally wrong.

And Week 6 is the perfect week for a few mistakes to become your advantage. Four teams are on bye, injuries are chewing through depth charts, and some players are about to get opportunities their rankings haven’t fully priced in.

We’re looking for players ranked outside the top 24 at their position who have a realistic shot at finishing inside it. Not miracle picks. Not a random name pulled out of the pigpen. Just four players whose opportunity gives them a better chance than their rankings suggest.

1. Woody Marks, RB — Texans

Week 6 ranking: RB28

Sometimes a sleeper is a talented player waiting for a chance. Sometimes the chance arrives because the starter gets hurt. Woody Marks has the second kind of opportunity.

With David Montgomery ruled out, Marks moves into a much more important role in Houston’s backfield. Athlon ranks him RB28 for Week 6, but another current ranking model places him at RB20, with an estimated 11.8 PPR points. That’s a meaningful gap between the cautious view and the optimistic one.

Houston faces Jacksonville, so this isn’t a matchup where we should automatically expect a 100-yard performance. But Marks doesn’t need to run wild to pay off. A useful share of the carries, a few receptions, and a chance at a touchdown could put him inside the top 24.

The key is volume. If Houston gives him enough work to make him more than a change-of-pace option, the ranking could look silly by Sunday night.

2. Blake Corum, RB — Rams

Week 6 consensus ranking: RB31

The Rams have Kyren Williams. The Rams also have Blake Corum. And if Los Angeles gets to spend Sunday playing with a lead, Corum could get enough work to make fantasy managers very happy.

Corum sits outside the top 24 in current Week 6 rankings, but the matchup against Arizona gives him a path to outperform that spot. The Cardinals could be vulnerable if the Rams’ offense gets rolling, creating an opportunity for Los Angeles to lean on its running game late.

That game script matters. Corum doesn’t need to steal the starting job from Williams or suddenly become the Rams’ featured back. He needs a useful share of carries, a few chances near the goal line, and enough fourth-quarter work to turn a modest workload into a fantasy-worthy afternoon.

Of course, there’s a catch: Corum’s ceiling depends heavily on how the game unfolds. If the Rams are forced into a shootout or Williams handles all the valuable touches, Corum could disappoint. He’s a speculative sleeper, not a guaranteed start.

But in a week when bye weeks are thinning out running back options, a backup who could see extra work in a favorable game script is worth considering.

3. Germie Bernard, WR — Steelers

Week 6 ranking: WR33

Germie Bernard was barely on the fantasy radar before Week 5. Then injuries hit Pittsburgh’s receiver room, and Bernard stepped into a much bigger role.

He responded with six catches for 80 yards on nine targets. He also ran a route on nearly 79% of Pittsburgh’s dropbacks and commanded a substantial share of the team’s targets. That is the sort of usage fantasy managers should notice.

The matchup against Tampa Bay isn’t easy. The Buccaneers have been stingy against slot receivers, and Bernard’s efficiency could take a hit. But the Steelers’ injuries have created a volume opportunity that simply wasn’t there earlier in the season.

A receiver doesn’t need to win every matchup to finish in the top 24. Sometimes he just needs to be on the field and get the ball thrown his way.

Bernard’s Week 5 production wasn’t a 40-yard touchdown propping up an otherwise empty stat line. He caught six passes and consistently contributed to the offense. If his role holds, another six-to-eight-target outing could make him a useful PPR play.

4. Kendrick Bourne, WR — Cardinals

Week 6 ranking: WR38

At WR38, Kendrick Bourne is being treated like a deep-league option. That’s understandable. He’s not a household name, and the Cardinals’ passing game has more than one mouth to feed.

But WR38 is a long way from the top 24, and Bourne doesn’t need to become Arizona’s No. 1 receiver to close that gap.

The Cardinals face the Rams in a matchup that offers a plausible path to passing-game production. Arizona may need to throw to keep pace, and that can create extra opportunities for receivers outside the top of the depth chart.

With Marvin Harrison Jr. inactive last week, Bourne stepped up to receive the most targets, receptions and yards of any wide receiver on team.

Bourne’s route to a top-24 finish is less about a guaranteed target floor and more about game script. If the Cardinals are chasing points, a handful of catches plus a red-zone opportunity could be enough to make him relevant.

He’s the riskier play on this list. We aren’t pretending WR38 means he’s secretly a sure thing. But in deeper leagues, or as a flex option when byes have left your lineup looking like a deserted pigpen, Bourne is worth monitoring.

PigSkinFantasy PPR Projection: 10.5 points

The best sleepers aren’t always the players with the flashiest names. They’re the players whose opportunities are better than their rankings suggest.

Marks has a chance to benefit from a backfield opening. Corum could get a lot of involvement if the game script leans his way. Bernard has earned a larger role through injuries and production. Bourne is a longer shot who could benefit if Arizona has to throw.

None is guaranteed to finish inside the top 24. That’s why they’re sleepers, not stars. But with bye weeks thinning out the options, PigSkinFantasy is willing to take a chance on the pigs the rest of the herd hasn’t noticed yet.
