Lions vs. Bills Fantasy Football Preview: What to Watch on Thursday Night
Instead of asking fantasy managers to spend three hours watching two offenses struggle to reach 20 points, we get Detroit and Buffalo, two teams perfectly capable of turning Thursday night into a track meet.
Josh Allen looked like Josh Allen in Week 1, throwing for 334 yards and four touchdowns in Buffalo’s 36-31 win over Houston. There isn’t much analysis required here. You drafted Allen early, you’re starting him, and you’re hoping Detroit’s offense scores enough to keep him throwing.
The more interesting Buffalo question is James Cook. The Bills managed just 86 rushing yards last week, but Detroit allowed 165 yards on the ground against New Orleans. If Buffalo can establish the run, Cook could be considerably more productive in Week 2.
On the other side, Jahmyr Gibbs gets an intriguing matchup against a Buffalo defense that surrendered 124 rushing yards to Houston. Detroit will likely want to keep Allen standing on the sideline as much as possible, and feeding Gibbs seems like a pretty reasonable way to accomplish that.
Amon-Ra St. Brown remains an automatic start after seeing 14 targets in Week 1, while Sam LaPorta and Jameson Williams belong in lineups as well.
The biggest concern for Detroit is up front. Starting offensive linemen Christian Mahogany and Blake Miller have both been ruled out, which isn’t ideal when you’re walking into Buffalo on a short week.
Still, this is one of those Thursday games where we’re not looking for reasons to get cute.
Start your stars. Then cross your fingers and hope nobody decided this was the week Thursday Night Football needed a 16-13 game.
