The Ayahuasca Offense

PITTSBURGH — In a move hailed by front office insiders as “exactly what this franchise needed to take the next step,” the Pittsburgh Steelers signed quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a one-year contract reportedly worth up to $25 million. Sources say a sizable portion of the incentives revolves around the full-time integration of Rodgers’ personal shaman and wellness guru into team operations.
According to people familiar with the negotiations, the deal includes a new “Spiritual Alignment Coordinator” position that guarantees Dr. Toklo Moonshadow, formerly Kevin Smoot of Topeka, a permanent place inside the Steelers facility. The agreement reportedly includes performance bonuses for successful aura cleansings, crystal maintenance, and the installation of a team-funded ayahuasca yurt within the sideline medical tent that will henceforth be shaped like a teepee.
“Aaron made it very clear that true enlightenment can’t happen in a standard quarterback room,” Steelers GM Omar Khan reportedly said. “We’re not just investing in arm talent anymore. We’re investing in vibes.”
Rodgers arrived at OTAs this week on a Captain America chopper with Moonshadow in the sidecar. Practice was delayed nearly an hour so Moonshadow could cleanse the offensive line with jungle tobacco via blowing and sucking techniques.
“The big guys had some serious blockages around their root chakras,” Moonshadow explained while burning sage near the locker room entrance. “We cleared those right up. Now they’ll be able to protect Aaron’s third eye just as well as his blind side.”
New Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy, reunited with Rodgers after their years together in Green Bay, sounded surprisingly open to the arrangement.
“Look, I’ve coached Aaron before,” McCarthy said. “If chanting before third-and-seven gets us a first down, I’ll learn the words. I mean, hell, I’d let Aaron play on LSD before I’d start Mason Rudolph.”
Rodgers addressed reporters after practice while wearing what appeared to be a crocheted peasant blouse and protective runes painted inside his Steelers helmet.
“We’re not here to win football games, man,” Rodgers said. “We’re here to raise the collective consciousness. If we happen to win the Lombardi Trophy too, that’s just the universe confirming our frequencies.”
He then shotgunned 40oz of horse dewormer and stumbled into the medical teepee for another dose of “treatment”.
